Welcome to my site!
As you browse these pages, you’ll see that most of my drawings and paintings depart from realism. But two things usually sneak in beyond the abstract: elements of nature and aspects of the spiritual. I’m concerned with the effects of light, the intertwining of line and shape, memory, imagination, and the fact that nature links us to the divine.
You also may notice that composition, color, and texture are more important to me than subject. When those three components are balanced and powerful, they can create a whole that satisfies, inspires, or speaks.
If my work speaks to you, then please get in touch. I want my art to be accessible, and I’ve priced it so it can be. A friend who has one of my pieces says she feels happy when she walks into the room and sees it. If you have that kind of reaction when you view my work, I’d like you to have something I’ve done. I really like the idea of engendering good feelings and a sense of joy; call me romantic (or even corny!), but I think it’s one of the best reasons to make art.
Here’s part of a poem by Wordsworth that sums it up nicely. He had walked past a daffodil field and, thinking about the flowers later, wrote:
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
I don’t know if anything here makes you want to dance, but I hope something fills your heart with pleasure. I’d love to hear from you if it does.
One more thing … I add to this site regularly, so please check back often for new pieces.
